Tell China's Stories Well and Make China's Voice Heard. Hello everyone, this is the Party Branch directly under theDepartment of International Education. Welcome to our multilingual series on China's stories. Today, we will explore the Lesser Snow solar term among the 24 Solar Terms.

“《群芳谱》有言：‘小雪气寒而将雪矣，地寒未甚而雪未大也。’此时，气温下降，降水形式由雨变雪，但因‘地寒未甚’，故雪量不大，是谓‘小雪’。

An ancient text describes it: ‘In Lesser Snow, the cold sets in, and snow is forthcoming. Yet, the earth is not thoroughly cold, and the snow is not heavy.’ Hence the name,Lesser Snow.

‘冬腊风腌，蓄以御冬’。小雪后，空气变得干燥，是加工腊肉、腌制蔬菜的好时节，为漫长冬季储备美味，也封存了秋日的馈赠。

'Curing with the winter wind to guard against the cold.' With the air turning dry, this is the perfect time to preserve meat and pickle vegetables, storing away autumn's bounty for the bleak winter.

作为这个时节最具代表性的节令食物之一，糍粑也将再次占据南方家庭小吃清单上的“C位”。

As one of the most representative seasonal foods during this period, ciba, a traditional glutinous rice cake, once again takes the spotlight on the snack lists of southern families.

有些地区还会酿晒鲜美的鱼干，或烹饪肉香四溢的“刨汤”。

Some regions marinate dried fish or prepare delicious pork soupin theLesser Snow.

小雪前后，黄河中下游地区也会降下初雪。农谚有云：“小雪雪满天，来年必丰年”。

Around Lesser Snow, the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River region will also experience the first snowfall. A farming proverb says: "When Lesser Snow fills the sky, the next year will yield a good harvest."

小雪，不是终结，而是一种‘藏’的智慧。它让忙碌的天地得以休憩，让躁动的心绪得以沉淀。万物在严寒中蓄势，生命在静默中孕育。

让我们顺应天时，怀抱希望，静待下一个春天。

Lesser Snow is not an end, but a wisdom of ‘storage.’ It allows the busy world to rest and restless hearts to settle. Life gathers strength in the cold, and new beginnings are quietly nurtured in the silence.

Let us follow nature's rhythm, hold onto hope, and quietly await the coming spring.
